Esterification Reaction

Esterification occurs between carboxylic acids and alcohols.

The colourfull notes from my students(5H) show reaction between ethanoic acid and different alcohols(methanol, ethanol, propanol and butanol).

    why is the mixture heated using water bath in esterification?

    to ensure the carboxylic acids and alcohols react completely to produce ester....

      Because alcohols are highly flammable. it would not be wise to expose it to an open flame(bunsen burner)
